On February 25 we commemorate the EDSA People Power Revolution, the glorious four-day peaceful revolution that toppled the Marcos dictatorship and paved the way for the restoration of democracy in the country. This momentous event is a testament to the Filipinos’ uncompromising love for freedom. Celebrating EDSA will not be complete without remembering Ninoy Aquino, the hero, the martyr; the man who laid down his life so that the Filipinos would be free.

Repeating pyramid scams

Pyramiding scam is an old scheme. While there are many variants to this fraudulent investment plan, the most popular is the Ponzi scheme, after Charles Ponzi who operated such plot in the United States from 1919-1920. The technique is to solicit investments for high returns, which is primarily taken from the investments of other investors. The payment of these abnormally high returns will depend on the flow of additional investments from new recruits. Intrinsically, the system becomes unsustainable because the earnings, if any, cannot cope up with the payments of returns to the ever increasing number of investors.
